Türkiye's Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM) on Friday rejected claims that Aselsan, one of the country's most strategic defense companies, would be sold to a U.S.-based firm, saying the allegations were unfounded.
The center, operating under the Communications Directorate, issued a statement on Turkish social media platform NSosyal after claims circulated on some social media accounts and media outlets that Aselsan would be sold to a company based in the U.S.
The center said the allegation was completely baseless and did not reflect the truth.
"There is no question of selling or transferring a strategic national value such as Aselsan, one of the most important pillars of Türkiye's domestic and national strength in the defense industry, to a foreign company," the statement said.
The center urged citizens not to give credence to malicious statements and posts that do not correspond to the facts.
The statement came as Aselsan's role in Türkiye's defense industry has drawn attention ahead of the NATO summit in Ankara on July 7-8.
NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte recently said Türkiye's largest defense electronics company is driving a defense industry transformation that will benefit every member of the alliance.
Speaking at the Atlantic Council during a visit to Washington ahead of the summit, Rutte said the Ankara gathering would demonstrate NATO's deterrence, unity and defense capacity.
He also emphasized the role of a strong and innovative defense industry in strengthening NATO's capabilities.
Rutte highlighted Aselsan's achievements and its contribution to Türkiye's defense industry transformation, referring to his recent visit to the company's facilities in Ankara.
"This spring, I spoke with talented young engineers at Aselsan, Türkiye's largest defense electronics company," Rutte said.
"They are driving Türkiye's defense industrial revolution, which will benefit every member of our Alliance," he added.
Rutte also said a major defense industry day would be held during the Ankara summit.
