Foreign Ministry said Wednesday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is responsible for his association with genocide, responding to what it called "baseless slanders" from Israeli officials.
The statement came after Israel's foreign minister shared a social media post that Turkish officials said contained "vile lies" targeting Türkiye and its president.
"The responsibility for Netanyahu's name being linked alongside those who have committed genocide in history lies with himself, as he is still being tried on genocide charges," the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a written statement.
The ministry said Türkiye hopes for a "fair trial" of Netanyahu and his collaborators, without specifying which legal proceedings it was referencing.
Turkish officials suggested that Israeli leaders' focus on statements made by Türkiye's president validates the accuracy of those remarks.
"The fact that Israeli officials have to focus so much on the statements of our president confirms the accuracy of the points made in those statements," the ministry said.
The Foreign Ministry asserted that Israeli leaders' actions "are being documented in a manner that leaves no room for doubt" and predicted future accountability.
"When the support and immunity shield that Israel currently enjoys among certain circles disappear, Netanyahu and his accomplices will be held accountable before justice," the statement concluded.
