Türkiye’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) spokesperson Omer Celik on Friday condemned the United States’ decision to cancel visas for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and a delegation of Palestinian officials due to attend the U.N. General Assembly, calling it an “unjust move that harms diplomacy.”

“This decision undermines the UN as a platform where all states’ voices should be heard,” Celik said in a statement on social media. “Blocking a legitimate authority that has been invited by the U.N. to the General Assembly is an attempt to render the UN meaningless.”

Celik warned that efforts to silence Palestine amid growing international support for a two-state solution would harm peace efforts.

He also criticized reported conditions linked to the visa issue, including demands that the Palestinian Authority withdraw cases from the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and abandon its push for wider recognition of Palestinian statehood.

Quoting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s long-standing line at the U.N., Celik added, “The world is bigger than five, and no one will silence the voice of Palestine. Our president’s speech at the UN General Assembly will continue to be the strongest voice of the Palestinian cause.”
