Türkiye on Wednesday "strongly" condemned gunfire opened by Israeli soldiers during a diplomatic visit to the occupied West Bank city of Jenin, which included a Turkish official from its Jerusalem Consulate.

“This attack, which endangered the lives of diplomats, is yet another demonstration of Israel’s systematic disregard for international law and human rights,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The ministry emphasized that targeting diplomats represents a grave violation of international norms and threatens the mutual respect that underpins diplomatic relations..

An immediate investigation must be launched, and those responsible must be held accountable, it added.

“We call on the international community to condemn this dangerous act in the strongest possible terms and to take concrete steps to end Israel’s impunity,” the ministry concluded.

Israel army says fired 'warning shots'

Israeli forces opened fire Wednesday to intimidate a foreign diplomatic delegation upon its arrival at an entrance to the Jenin camp in the occupied West Bank.

"The delegation deviated from the approved route and entered an area where they were not authorised to be," the Israeli military said in a statement, adding that "soldiers operating in the area fired warning shots" after the Palestinian Authority condemned the use of "live fire."

The statement said no injuries were reported and added that the army "regrets the inconvenience caused."

According to the official Palestinian news agency Wafa, the delegation included diplomats from Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, the EU, Portugal, China, Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, Türkiye, Spain, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Japan, Romania, Mexico, Sri Lanka, Canada, India, Chile, France, and the UK, along with representatives from several other countries.
