Türkiye has begun meeting critical military motor requirements with domestic solutions across land, air, sea and missile systems, overcoming covert and open embargoes through a comprehensive engine development program, according to Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) Chairman Haluk Gorgun.

SSB is implementing motor development strategies through four roadmaps: Gas Turbine Engine Roadmap, Land Vehicles Power Group Roadmap, National Diesel Marine Engines Roadmap, and National Marine-Type Electric Propulsion Systems Roadmap, all coordinated by the SSB.

The initiatives aim to end foreign dependency in the critical subsystem of engines for national defense platforms.

Land vehicle achievements

VURAN and KIRPI vehicles have been added to the Turkish Armed Forces' inventory, equipped with domestically produced TUNA engines, Gorgun reported. The AZRA Gen-2 engine for tank carriers and logistics vehicles continues successful testing.

Development and testing of the UTKU engine for next-generation tracked vehicles, as well as the BATU engine for the Altay tank, have been completed, with transmission tests for both progressing successfully.

Aviation milestones

The PD200 engine powering Bayraktar TB3 unmanned aerial vehicles has entered inventory. The PD170 engine, integrated with the ANKA and Aksungur platforms, continues testing, while the PG50 engine provides independent capabilities for KARGI UAVs.

Certification tests for the national TS1400 turboshaft engine, used in Gokbey helicopters, continue alongside successful serial production efforts.

Naval and missile systems

Turkish-made jet engines now power missiles and munitions, including the KTJ3200 for ATMACA and SOM missiles, KTJ1750 for CAKIR, and KTJ3700 for KARA ATMACA, also known as ATMACA UM. Development of next-generation missile engines continues.

Naval platforms feature the LEVEND engine for Marlin unmanned surface vehicles and Marin X7 integration for ULAQ vessels. Testing for the MAVI BATU independent solution for MILGEM ships has been completed.

Advanced jet engine development

The TF6000 turbofan engine developed for ANKA-III has been successfully operated, while TF10000 development for Kizilelma continues. Development activities for the TF35000 main engine and APU60 auxiliary power unit for the National Combat Aircraft KAAN proceed successfully.

Türkiye has established a comprehensive portfolio in engine technologies, now meeting critical capability requirements across land, air, sea and missile systems with domestic and national resources.
