The Türkiye-U.S. Syria Working Group is scheduled to meet in Washington on May 20, according to sources from the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The meeting comes at a significant time following recent diplomatic developments between the U.S. and Syria.
The meeting will be co-chaired by Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Nuh Yilmaz and his US counterpart Christopher Landau.
The interagency format meeting is expected to focus on aligning the Syrian policy priorities of both nations and exploring opportunities for cooperation to establish security and stability in Syria.
Combating Daesh and other terrorist organizations is expected to headline the meeting's agenda.
The discussions will reportedly address Türkiye's recent support to the Syrian government in the context of anti-Daesh efforts and the regional initiatives led by Türkiye.
The meeting will evaluate potential cooperation regarding camps in northeastern Syria. Additionally, the U.S. side is expected to provide information on the ongoing process of consolidating American military forces in Syria.
The timing of the meeting is particularly significant as it follows the initiation of direct engagement between the U.S. and Syria at the leadership level and President Trump's announcement regarding the lifting of sanctions against Syria.
Accordingly, the process and timeline for lifting U.S. sanctions on Syria are expected to be discussed.
During the talks, Deputy Minister Yilmaz is expected to emphasize Türkiye's commitment to multi-dimensional coordination with the U.S. in political, economic, and security domains to ensure security and stability in Syria while preserving the country's territorial integrity and unity.
Yilmaz is also anticipated to share Türkiye's expectation that Syria's current historic process will result in clearing the country of all terrorist elements.
