Türkiye will not allow any "fait accompli" that infringes on its rights, interests, or concerns in the Aegean Sea and Eastern Mediterranean, Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler said in a statement.
Guler's remarks came in response to a written parliamentary question from Good Party (IYI Parti) Bursa MP Yuksel Selcuk Turkoglu concerning "the stance to be taken against Greece's decision to extend Aegean territorial waters to 12 miles."
The defense minister emphasized that "every activity by Greece in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean that violates Türkiye's rights, interests and concerns and is contrary to international law is being monitored within the scope of the Ministry of National Defenses' duties and responsibilities, and necessary reactions are shown swiftly."
Guler provided details on Türkiye's response strategy in his written reply to the parliamentary inquiry.
"Against the allegations mentioned in the parliamentary question, necessary responses are always given both in the field and diplomatically," Guler stated. "No fait accompli that would violate our country's rights, interests and concerns in the Aegean Sea and Eastern Mediterranean will be allowed."
The defense minister noted that coordination extends beyond military measures to include diplomatic channels.
Guler confirmed that relevant matters are communicated to the Foreign Ministry to support necessary diplomatic initiatives with Greece. "The aforementioned issues are reported to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to support the necessary diplomatic initiatives to be taken with Greece," he stated.
The parliamentary response indicates a coordinated approach between defense and diplomatic agencies in addressing Greek activities in the disputed waters.
