Türkiye has been reelected to the council of the U.N.’s International Maritime Organization (IMO), the Foreign Ministry announced Friday.
The vote took place during the 34th Session of the IMO Assembly, which is currently underway in London and will continue through Dec. 3.
In its announcement, the ministry said the result once again highlights Türkiye’s active and trusted role within the IMO, noting the country’s capacity and experience in maritime safety, marine environmental protection, international shipping and port services.
“Türkiye will continue to make tangible contributions to multilateral cooperation in the maritime sector,” the statement said.
According to the ministry, Türkiye has maintained uninterrupted representation on the IMO Council since its first candidacy in 1999.
Officials said this consistent presence demonstrates Türkiye’s longstanding expertise and engagement in global maritime affairs.
The 34th assembly of the U.N. agency is being attended by Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu, who is holding bilateral meetings and signing agreements with various countries, including Panama.
