Türkiye considers digital sovereignty in the defense sector an inseparable part of national security, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Tuesday, stressing that the country now designs, produces and exports its own defense technologies.
Speaking at a ceremony marking the launch of Sancar, a new Turkish unmanned naval vehicle, Erdogan said Türkiye has reached a stage where technological independence underpins its broader security strategy.
“Türkiye now designs its own technology, produces its own software, and exports its products to the entire world,” Erdogan said.
Erdogan said the Sancar would enhance Türkiye’s unmanned capabilities at sea, increasing security, operational effectiveness and surveillance capacity.
“The Sancar enhances our unmanned capabilities at sea, boosting our security, effectiveness and surveillance capacity,” he said.
The unmanned naval vehicle was developed by Turkish defense company Havelsan in cooperation with Yonca Shipyard for the operational needs of modern navies. It is the first unmanned naval platform developed by Havelsan to use the ADVENT ROTA Network-Supported Data-Integrated Combat Management System as its mission system.
The ceremony also marked the opening of Havelsan’s new facilities.
Erdogan said the investments represent a continuation of strategic steps aimed at strengthening the overall capacity and global impact of Türkiye’s defense ecosystem.
When completed, Havelsan’s new complex will become Europe’s largest production and integration facility for simulation technologies, he added.
Erdogan said a country cannot speak of a secure future without national software, stressing that full independence cannot be separated from technological independence.
He added that Türkiye now implements a detection, diagnosis and attack model based on locally developed and nationally produced technologies.
