General Selcuk Bayraktaroglu, chief of the Turkish General Staff, conducted a rapid series of telephone calls with his counterparts from the United States, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Oman on Wednesday, according to statements released by the Turkish military, in one of the busiest single days of high-level military diplomacy in recent months.
The calls, spread across the afternoon and evening, covered bilateral military relations and regional developments, the General Staff said in near-identical statements posted after each conversation.
The first call came with General Dan Caine, chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff. A statement from the Turkish military said the two discussed bilateral relations and regional issues.
One Turkish outlet reported that the conversation also touched on military cooperation between the two countries and regional security matters, with the two sides exchanging views on the current situation and possible avenues of cooperation.
Bayraktaroglu also spoke separately with General Fayyadh bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili, chief of the Saudi Arabian General Staff, with the two discussing bilateral relations between Türkiye and Saudi Arabia and regional issues, according to a statement carried by Turkish media.
He held a further call with Lieutenant General Jassim bin Mohammed Al-Mannai, chief of the Qatari General Staff, and with Vice Admiral Abdullah bin Khamis bin Abdullah Al-Raisi, chief of the Omani General Staff. Statements from the Turkish Ministry of National Defense said both conversations covered bilateral relations and regional issues, with no further details on their content released.
