Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will visit Qatar on July 19, according to Foreign Ministry sources, as Ankara seeks to reaffirm its support for Doha following recent attacks on Qatari territory and amid continued regional tensions over the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Foreign Ministry sources, Fidan's talks in Doha are expected to focus on reaffirming Türkiye's "strong solidarity and support" for Qatar following the attacks it faced, and on discussing the deepening ties between the two countries under their strategic partnership.
Fidan is also expected to review preparations for the 12th High Strategic Committee meeting, planned to be held in Türkiye later this year under the co-chairmanship of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
Fidan is expected to note that recent regional developments have once again demonstrated the strategic value of military and defense cooperation between the two countries and to stress the importance of addressing regional issues through dialogue, diplomacy and a sense of regional ownership while strengthening joint efforts in that framework.
He is also expected to highlight the growing importance of cooperation on connectivity given its increasing significance for economic stability and energy security.
According to the sources, Fidan is expected to describe a permanent end to the Gulf conflict and prevention of renewed escalation as the most urgent priority and to exchange views on diplomatic and mediation efforts underway toward that goal.
The top Turkish diplomat is also expected to underscore the importance of fully ensuring navigational safety in the Strait of Hormuz, to note the need for vigilance regarding Israel's destabilizing activities, and to share Türkiye's assessment of the situation in Gaza and developments under the Gaza peace plan.
Fidan last visited Qatar on May 11-12.
