A second tourist has been found dead on the historic Lycian Way hiking trail in Mugla province, following the discovery of a 70-year-old Australian woman's body on Saturday, just days after a Chinese hiker was found deceased in the same region.

A hiking group discovered the body of Australian national Irene Claire Dunn in a rocky area near the Bogazici neighborhood's Yediburunlar location in the Seydikemer district.

The hikers immediately reported the discovery to the 112 Emergency Call Center.

Complex rescue operation on Lycian Way

Following the report, Gendarmerie Search and Rescue (JAK) teams and the National Medical Rescue Team (UMKE) were deployed to the scene.

Emergency teams established a station in the area and carefully removed Dunn's body from the rocky terrain using specialized equipment.

Dunn's body has been transferred to the Mugla Forensic Medicine Institute to determine the exact cause of death.

Earlier Chinese tourist death on Lycian Way

The Australian tourist's death follows another tragic incident on September 6, when the body of missing Chinese tourist Xu Wenkai was recovered after an extensive search operation.

According to official information, the 112 Emergency Call Center received a report on Sept. 4, at 4:28 p.m., stating that approximately 30-year-old Chinese national Xu Wenkai had not been heard from since Aug. 25, 2025.

The missing person report indicated that the tourist was last seen hiking between Kabak Bay and Butterfly Valley, where he had shared a photograph on social media.

Following the report, gendarmerie teams launched an investigation. The Fethiye Gendarmerie Search and Rescue (JAK) team conducted extensive search operations and requested support from Mugla Provincial Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) on Sept. 5, 2025, at 10:20 p.m.

AFAD teams were deployed to the region at dawn and began comprehensive search efforts. After intensive search operations, Xu Wenkai's body was recovered.

The investigation into the incident is underway.
