An unmanned aerial vehicle that fell onto vacant land about a week ago in the Salur neighborhood of the Manyas district in Balikesir province, located in the northwest of Türkiye, was discovered by farmers and handed over to security forces, officials said Saturday.

According to information obtained, residents who noticed the downed UAV—whose ownership has not yet been determined—alerted gendarmerie teams. The teams secured the area and carried out an initial examination.

The UAV, whose possible Russian origin has not been confirmed, was sent to Ankara for detailed technical analysis. An investigation into the incident is ongoing, authorities said.

Drone believed to be Russian found in Kocaeli

In a separate case, a drone believed to be a Russian-made Orlan-10 reconnaissance UAV was found Friday in Türkiye’s northwestern Kocaeli province, the Interior Ministry said.

The drone was located in the Cubuklubala neighborhood of the Izmit district, the ministry said in a statement posted on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal. Investigations are continuing.

The discoveries come days after the National Defense Ministry said an out-of-control drone approaching Turkish airspace over the Black Sea was shot down in a secure area to prevent potential harm.
