An aircraft operated by Turkish low-cost carrier AJet flying from Istanbul to Tehran declared an emergency and made an unscheduled landing in Ankara on Sunday due to a medical emergency involving a passenger.
The Boeing 737, operating flight VF183, departed Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport bound for Iran’s capital, Tehran.
While flying over Kirsehir, the cockpit crew declared an emergency and set the aircraft’s transponder to code 7700, indicating a general emergency.
The aircraft landed safely at Ankara Esenboga Airport.
In a statement, AJet’s Press Office said:
“Our passenger aircraft, operating flight VF 183 from Sabiha Gokcen to Tehran, made an emergency landing in Ankara due to a passenger feeling unwell. The passenger who fell ill was removed from the aircraft and taken to the hospital. The aircraft took off again and landed in Tehran.”
Officials said the emergency landing was prompted by a passenger experiencing a medical emergency during the flight.
The passenger was disembarked after landing and taken to a hospital for treatment.
After the medical evacuation, the aircraft took off again and later completed its flight to Tehran.
The 7700 code is an internationally recognized signal used to indicate a general emergency, including medical emergencies, engine failure, fire or unexpected technical issues.
