Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced that cooperation between Azerbaijan and Türkiye has transformed the energy map of a vast geography, with major renewable energy production and export projects underway, during the second Türkiye-Azerbaijan-Pakistan Trilateral Summit held in Lachin.
The Türkiye Azerbaijan Pakistan Summit took place in the liberated city of Lachin on Azerbaijan's Independence Day, with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif participating in the trilateral meeting.
President Aliyev emphasized the symbolic significance of holding the summit in Lachin, a city liberated from Armenian occupation, coinciding with Azerbaijan's Independence Day.
"Today's summit is being held for the second time. The first summit was organized in July last year. I am confident that we will continue this tradition," Aliyev stated during his address.
The Azerbaijani leader highlighted the historical, cultural, and value-based bonds connecting the three nations, noting: "We take pride in each other's successes and support each other in difficult times. Azerbaijan, Pakistan, and Türkiye always stand for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and justice."
Aliyev disclosed significant investment figures during the summit, revealing Azerbaijan's substantial economic commitments to both partner countries.
The president announced that Azerbaijan has invested more than $20 billion in the Turkish economy and is prepared to invest $2 billion in Pakistan, demonstrating the concrete nature of trilateral economic cooperation.
He emphasized that the three countries possess extensive opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation due to their strategic positions and economic potential.
The Azerbaijani president outlined the strategic role of the three countries in regional and global energy security, stating: "Our countries play a strategic role in energy security on a regional and global scale. Thanks to the cooperation between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, the energy map of not only our region but a wide geography has changed. We have started major projects on renewable energy production and export."
This energy cooperation represents a fundamental shift in regional energy dynamics, with implications extending beyond the immediate geographic area.
Aliyev noted the strategic importance of transportation corridors connecting Asia and Europe, suggesting that Pakistan's active participation in this initiative would accelerate cooperation efforts.
Regarding defense collaboration, the president emphasized: "Joint military exercises and technical projects increase the strength of our armies. This cooperation serves to strengthen peace and stability in a wider geography."
The defense cooperation includes joint military drills and technical projects that enhance the capabilities of the three nations' armed forces.
President Aliyev addressed recent Pakistan-India tensions, expressing Azerbaijan's solidarity with Pakistan during the crisis period.
"We closely followed the recent tension between Pakistan and India with great concern, at the same time with the hope that peace and stability would be achieved. During the tense period, we openly declared our solidarity with Pakistan from the first day," Aliyev stated.
He emphasized support for resolving the conflict through peaceful means in accordance with international law and United Nations Security Council decisions.
The Azerbaijani leader praised Türkiye's achievements in counterterrorism efforts, specifically acknowledging recent developments regarding the PKK.
"The PKK's decision to lay down arms is a result of President Erdogan's determination and the strength of the Turkish state," Aliyev commented, recognizing Türkiye's success in addressing security challenges.
President Aliyev highlighted the need to expand cooperation in emerging technological fields, including digital innovation, artificial intelligence, and space technologies. These new areas of collaboration represent the evolution of trilateral partnership beyond traditional sectors to encompass cutting-edge technological development.
The president acknowledged the political and moral support provided by Türkiye and Pakistan during the Second Karabakh War, emphasizing mutual solidarity among the three nations.
"We have always stood by our brothers. Today we confirm the unity of our peoples once again," Aliyev declared, reinforcing the principle of mutual support during challenging periods.
Concluding his remarks, President Aliyev reaffirmed the permanent nature of regional partnerships, stating: "Türkiye-Azerbaijan friendship and brotherhood is eternal."
