Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak has rejected President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s alleged threats toward Israel, saying claims that Türkiye could destroy Israel are “delusional.”

Speaking about regional tensions, Barak said that Türkiye is being unnecessarily portrayed as a direct security threat.

“They are demonizing Türkiye here, they are threatening us and moving forces,” he said, while arguing that such narratives do not reflect reality.

‘No danger of war between Türkiye and Israel’

Barak underlined that he does not see a realistic risk of war between Türkiye and Israel, stressing Ankara’s role as a NATO member and a serious state actor.

He pointed to regional precedents, noting that Egypt’s peace agreement with Israel remained intact even during periods of Muslim Brotherhood rule.

“There is no danger of a war between Türkiye and Israel,” Barak said, adding that scenarios depicting clashes between the two countries, including in Syrian airspace, are exaggerated.

F-35 remarks and NATO role

Addressing discussions about Türkiye’s military capabilities, Barak said he personally does not favor Türkiye having F-35 fighter jets but emphasized that this does not change the broader picture.

“Anyone who talks about Türkiye as one that will destroy Israel is delusional,” Barak said, reiterating that Türkiye’s NATO membership and institutional strength make such claims unrealistic.
