Following the collapse of the Assad regime and liberation of Damascus on Dec. 8, a cache of leaked regime intelligence documents emerged on X revealing that the Assad regime and the YPG/PKK have been cooperating with one another since the beginning of the Syrian civil war in 2011.

One regime cable from August 2011 indicates that the YPG/PKK reported to the Assad regime about bringing 100 fighters from northern Iraq into Syria, specifying regime forces to make their transfer easier. A May 2012 document specifies aiding YPG/PKK in arms smuggling. Another regime cable reveals dated July 2013 states for regime forces to cooperate with the YPG/PKK in Aleppo.

Large sums of regime documents, including the regime's effort of spying on Syrian citizens, are currently leaked.
