Two drones targeted a U.S. camp near Baghdad International Airport on Thursday, according to Al Jazeera, citing an Iraqi security source.
No immediate details were available on casualties or damage.
The reported attack comes amid a series of strikes on positions belonging to Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF).
Strikes killed two fighters from the former paramilitary coalition Hashed al-Shaabi in northern Iraq early Thursday, according to two statements from the group.
The two attacks targeted their positions in the Nineveh region, where Mosul city is located, and a military airport in Salah al-Din province, according to statements from the PMF.
In a statement posted on Facebook, the group said the fourth regiment of its 30th Brigade came under what it described as a “treacherous” U.S.-Israeli airstrike in the Nineveh Plain earlier Thursday.
The PMF, also known as Hashd al-Shaabi, was formed in 2014 to support Iraqi forces in the fight against the Daesh terrorist group and was formally incorporated into Iraq’s armed forces in 2016.
The developments come as Israel and the United States continue joint attacks on Iran launched on Feb. 28, which have killed around 1,300 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, according to Iranian authorities.
Iran has responded with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq and Gulf countries hosting U.S. military assets, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure while disrupting global markets and aviation.
