Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed in an interview with Italy’s La Repubblica that Egypt completely rejects any attempt to partition the Gaza Strip or forcibly displace Palestinians.

Abdelatty outlined Egypt’s efforts to uphold the Sharm el-Sheikh agreement and implement all its provisions, according to a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Saturday evening.

Abdelatty told the Italian newspaper that Egypt “completely rejects any attempt to partition the Gaza Strip or forcibly displace Palestinians.”

He stressed that preserving the unity of Palestinian land is a fundamental pillar of any just, lasting and comprehensive solution, according to a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Facebook.

The foreign minister noted that the two-state solution “remains the only realistic option for achieving peace in the region,” adding that “direct U.S. engagement has been a decisive factor in overcoming the obstacles that hindered previous rounds of negotiations.”

He said it is essential to continue pushing for the implementation of all phases of the Sharm el-Sheikh peace plan, including forming a Palestinian committee to temporarily administer the Strip, paving the way for enabling the Palestinian Authority to fully assume its responsibilities.

He added that “Cairo is hosting factional dialogues and working to create a consensual environment that safeguards the unity of Palestinian territory.”

Egyptian-Turkish relations show tangible progress

Regarding ties between Cairo and Ankara, Abdelatty said Egyptian–Turkish relations are witnessing tangible progress at various levels.

This progress is driven by a shared political will to expand bilateral cooperation, broaden prospects for partnership, and enhance channels of consultation and coordination in a way that serves mutual interests and strengthens security and stability in the region.

These statements come at a time when Israeli media in recent days have been promoting proposals suggesting the possible division of the Gaza Strip into two areas.

The Hebrew newspaper Haaretz reported on Friday that the Israeli army was surprised by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s approval of a U.S. request to divide the Strip into “New Gaza” and “Old Gaza.”

The difference between the two areas, the report said, is that “New Gaza” would be included in reconstruction plans for what the Israeli army destroyed during the two years of genocide, while the other area would not.
