Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said Wednesday that Cairo is open to the deployment of an international force in Gaza under a U.N. Security Council mandate to help the Palestinian Authority administer the enclave.

Speaking at a joint press conference during the 80th session of the U.N. General Assembly in New York, alongside counterparts from Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Norway and other Arab and European states, Abdelatty said: “We are open to the deployment of international forces in Gaza, by a decision of the U.N. Security Council, in order to help the Palestinian Authority administer the area.”

He added that there was an agreement for the Palestinian Authority to temporarily govern Gaza “without the involvement of any Palestinian faction,” but provided no further details.

Jordan, Saudi Arabia push for two-state solution

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said the coalition of states backing a two-state solution reflects a “global consensus” that it remains the only way to achieve a just and comprehensive peace.

“The only obstacle to the two-state solution is the far-right stance of the Israeli government,” Safadi said. “Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s clear declaration that he will not allow the establishment of a Palestinian state also means that he will not allow a just and comprehensive peace.”

He accused Israel of standing in the way of peace through its actions in Gaza, the expansion of West Bank settlements, land confiscations, and attacks in Syria and Lebanon.

Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan announced that a coalition of partners had formed to finance the Palestinian Authority, with Saudi Arabia pledging $90 million.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, speaking by video to the UNGA, stressed: “The Gaza Strip is an inseparable part of the State of Palestine, and we are ready to assume the responsibility of ensuring security in Gaza.”

Trump reportedly presented Gaza plan at UN sidelines

Israel’s Channel 12 reported that U.S. President Donald Trump presented a plan on Sept. 23 at a Gaza-focused meeting on the sidelines of the UNGA to permanently halt Israel’s military campaign.

The reported plan, shaped by Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, includes the release of all Israeli captives, a permanent cease-fire, and the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces.

It also envisions governance in Gaza without Hamas, the deployment of a multinational security force drawn from Arab and Islamic countries, and Arab-funded reconstruction efforts. The Palestinian Authority would take part in administering Gaza in the post-conflict period, according to the report.
