Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Saturday emphasized the need to advance to the second phase of the Gaza plan, which covers political, development, and humanitarian issues, during a phone discussion with EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, the Foreign Ministry said.

He stressed the need to move to the second phase of the U.S. president’s peace plan, which includes political, development, and humanitarian dimensions, and to begin steps for early recovery and reconstruction.

He also emphasized the necessity of ensuring the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza in quantities that meet the needs of its population.

Gaza’s early recovery steps

Regarding developments in the Gaza Strip, Abdelatty briefed Kallas on Egypt’s efforts to consolidate the Sharm el-Sheikh peace agreement and underlined the importance of its full implementation.

Abdelatty also underlined the significance of launching Gaza’s early recovery and reconstruction steps and ensuring humanitarian aid to the enclave in adequate quantities that meet the population’s needs.

During the conversation, both sides discussed arrangements and preparations for the International Conference for Early Recovery and Reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, due to be held in Cairo this month.

The discussion also touched on ongoing consultations in New York regarding a United Nations Security Council resolution welcoming the U.S. peace plan, forming a peace council, deploying an international force, and establishing a Palestinian administrative committee.

Talks touch on Sudan situation

In Sudan, both sides agreed there is no military solution to the crisis and stressed the importance of implementing the Quartet statement issued on Sept. 12.

They highlighted the need to preserve Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national institutions.

The two parties condemned the recent violations in El-Fasher, urged international action to end these serious abuses, and expressed deep concern over the deteriorating humanitarian situation.

They emphasized the need for intensified efforts to achieve a humanitarian truce and a cease-fire across Sudan as a prelude to launching an inclusive political process.
