President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in a phone call Tuesday that Türkiye would continue to stand by Saudi Arabia, condemning Houthi attacks on the kingdom "in the strongest terms," as the Yemeni group declared Aramco oil facilities a "legitimate target."
"Our President stated that Türkiye will stand by Saudi Arabia in the coming period as well and that he believes this trial will be overcome," Türkiye's Communications Directorate said in a statement.
The call came as the Saudi-led coalition prepared a military operation in Houthi-held Sanaa and the Houthis threatened Riyadh and Saudi oil sites, while Türkiye's defense pact with Saudi Arabia and Pakistan heads to parliament.
Erdogan and the crown prince discussed recent regional developments and attacks on Saudi Arabia, the directorate said.
"President Erdogan stated that, as Türkiye, we condemn in the strongest terms the Houthi attacks targeting Saudi territory and expressed his sorrow and condolences for those who lost their lives," it said.
The Saudi-led coalition said Tuesday it would issue an evacuation warning to civilians in Sanaa ahead of a "precision operation," coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki said on X.
It later ordered civilians to evacuate the Yemen Petroleum Company’s central al-Sabahah station in the Houthi-held capital.
"The Yemeni Armed Forces warn all employees and citizens near any facility belonging to Aramco oil to evacuate it and move away from it, as it is a legitimate target for our forces," Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree wrote on X.
He renewed warnings to experts, engineers and workers at all Saudi oil facilities not to be present at sites “that represent targets for our forces, as well as to airlines, airports and travelers.
"The Yemeni Armed Forces warn the Saudi enemy that any targeting of the capital, Sanaa, will be met with a tough and painful response in the enemy’s capital of Riyadh," Saree said.
Houthi attacks on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport killed 14 people on Saturday and Sunday, according to Saudi authorities, as the Houthi threat to Saudi Arabia escalates.
