European Union leaders praised the diplomatic efforts of Türkiye, Qatar, Egypt and the United States in mediating the Gaza ceasefire agreement, with multiple heads of state issuing statements thanking the mediator countries.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said she welcomed the approval of the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire plan.
"I appreciate the diplomatic efforts of the U.S., Qatar, Egypt and Türkiye in achieving this breakthrough," von der Leyen said on X. She said she was encouraged by the support of the Israeli government and Palestinian administration.
Von der Leyen called on all parties to fully comply with the terms of the agreement, saying all hostages must be safely released, a permanent ceasefire must be achieved and the suffering must end.
Dutch caretaker Prime Minister Dick Schoof said the ceasefire announcement was a long-awaited development.
"This could mean an end to the pain of so many, the hostages, their families and the people of Gaza," Schoof said on X, thanking U.S. President Donald Trump for the ceasefire plan.
"Many thanks to Egypt, Qatar and Türkiye for their efforts," he added.
Dutch Foreign Minister David van Weel said the agreement on the first phase of the peace deal between Israel and Hamas was a very important step.
"The diplomatic role of Egypt, Qatar and Türkiye was invaluable in making this agreement happen," van Weel said, thanking Trump for his leadership.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni called the ceasefire agreement reached through negotiations in Egypt "extraordinary news."
"I want to thank President Trump for his tireless efforts to end the conflict in Gaza and the critical mediators Egypt, Qatar and Türkiye for their efforts towards the positive outcome achieved," Meloni said in a written statement.
French President Emmanuel Macron said he welcomed the agreement reached overnight for the release of hostages and a ceasefire in Gaza.
"I welcome the efforts of Qatari, Egyptian and Turkish mediators as well as President (Donald) Trump to reach (the agreement)," Macron said on X.
Trump thanked the countries that helped mediate the Gaza peace agreement.
"We thank the mediators from Qatar, Egypt and Türkiye who worked with us to make this historic and unprecedented event happen," Trump said, emphasizing the agreement is very important for the Arab and Muslim world, Israel, the U.S. and regional countries.
Hamas confirmed in a written statement that a ceasefire agreement was reached in Gaza following serious negotiations with Palestinian groups.
"Hamas announces that an agreement has been reached providing for an end to the war on Gaza, the withdrawal of the occupiers, the entry of humanitarian aid and a prisoner exchange," the statement said.
"We greatly appreciate the efforts of our mediator brothers in Qatar, Egypt and Türkiye," the statement said, concluding, "We also appreciate the efforts of U.S. President Donald Trump aimed at ultimately ending the war and the complete withdrawal of occupying Israel from the Gaza Strip."
