The number of Palestinians who have died from starvation and malnutrition in Gaza has risen to 289, including 115 children, amid what officials and humanitarian groups describe as Israel’s deliberate use of famine as a weapon of war.
The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), a United Nations-supported initiative, confirmed that famine has officially been declared in Gaza. According to the report, eight more Palestinians – including one child – died recently due to hunger and malnutrition.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health stated that since October 7, 2023, a total of 289 people have died from hunger, among them 115 children.
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement accusing Israel of deliberately deepening the crisis:
“Israel’s siege and policy of blocking aid has triggered famine. Gaza’s occupation, genocide, and starvation will collapse the city’s infrastructure and push millions of civilians into catastrophe.”
The Gaza Ministry of Health reported that in the past 24 hours, Israeli attacks across the enclave killed 64 Palestinians and wounded 278. Strikes on so-called aid points left 19 civilians dead and 123 injured.
Since October 7, 2023, the death toll from Israeli military operations has reached 62,686, with 157,951 wounded, according to health authorities.

On August 8, Israel’s Security Cabinet approved a plan to occupy Gaza City. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu openly declared that the goal is the complete takeover of Gaza.
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned: “The famine in Gaza is not natural – it is the result of Israel’s systematic war policy.”
In the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, raids, arrests, and attacks on Palestinian communities continue. In July alone, 466 assaults were reported in the West Bank, resulting in over 1,000 Palestinians killed, 7,000 injured, and more than 18,500 arrested.
Bedouin communities around Hebron, Nablus, Ramallah, and Jericho have also been targeted while defending their lands.
