Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Friday condemned Israel’s efforts to expel Gazans from their lands and annex the West Bank, calling them “unacceptable” during a meeting with Hamas Shura Council head Mohammed Ismail Darwish.
Fidan met with a Hamas delegation led by Darwish in Istanbul, according to sources from the Turkish Foreign Ministry.
The Hamas delegation emphasized that humanitarian aid allowed into Gaza remains grossly inadequate and criticized Israel’s unyielding position in cease-fire negotiations.
Fidan accused Israel of pursuing a policy of genocide by starving the people of Gaza, adding that this strategy shows Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government is not serious about reaching a cease-fire.
He said Israel seeks to prolong cease-fire talks to break Gaza’s resistance and force the displacement of its population.
Fidan underlined Türkiye’s support for the continuation of negotiations and pointed to growing international public support for the Palestinian cause.
He added that rising public pressure has led to increasing recognition of the Palestinian state and growing international isolation of Israel.
Fidan reaffirmed that Türkiye’s support for the Palestinian cause “will continue in the strongest manner.”
Since Oct. 7, 2023, the Israeli army has carried out a deadly offensive in Gaza, rejecting international cease-fire calls. More than 60,000 Palestinians — most of them women and children — have been killed in the campaign, which has devastated the enclave and caused severe food shortages.
