Displaced Palestinians in southern Gaza appealed Saturday for tents, blankets, food and medical supplies ahead of winter, warning that shelter shortages and dwindling aid could leave thousands exposed to rain, cold and strong winds.
Dozens of displaced residents protested in the Fash Farsh area of Khan Younis, calling on international organizations and donors to provide urgent shelter materials and basic supplies amid Israel’s blockade.
“Our tents are torn, and our stomachs are empty. Do not leave us to the unknown,” one protest sign read.
Families said they fear a repeat of previous winters, when heavy rain flooded and damaged tents and left displaced people exposed to severe weather. Deaths, including among children, were also reported during periods of extreme cold and after damaged buildings collapsed.
“We are heading into winter, and we need tarpaulins, tents, food and health supplies so we can withstand the heavy rain and winds,” Iyad Zomor told the Turkish state-run Anadolu Agency.
Iyad Al-Shaer said many tents provided little protection from cold, rain or wind and urged humanitarian organizations to deliver shelter supplies before weather conditions deteriorate.
Ahmed Hassan Al-Najjar, who oversees Fash Farsh, said 35 displacement camps in the area shelter about 6,000 families, or roughly 40,000 people.
He said residents face shortages of tents, tarpaulins, food parcels and medical supplies and called for urgent assistance.
According to Palestinian figures, Israel has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians and injured over 175,000 in Gaza since October 2023.
The figures also say that about 90% of the enclave’s infrastructure has been destroyed.
