According to Greek media outlet eKathimerini, Greek police have detained six Turkish nationals in connection with an armed attack on agents from the National Intelligence Service (EYP) near Thessaloniki.
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening during a covert surveillance operation targeting Turkish suspects believed to have links to organized crime.
The suspects were riding in a silver SUV bearing foreign license plates. Upon stopping at a gas station in the Tagarades area, they seemed to become aware that they were under surveillance. At that point, one suspect got out of the vehicle, pulled out a handgun, and fired several shots toward a car carrying EYP officers.
The gunman quickly returned to the SUV, which then sped away from the scene. No injuries were reported.
Police collected three shell casings at the site and obtained security camera footage from the gas station as part of the ongoing investigation.
The detainees include the vehicle owner's roommate and another person thought to be at the shooting. Authorities are currently investigating their involvement.
