Iran on Wednesday accused Kuwait and Bahrain of permitting the United States to use their territory to launch attacks on an Iranian oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz and a communications tower on Qeshm Island, holding the two Gulf states responsible for the strikes.

"The foreign ministry ... condemns the colonialist use by the United States of the territory and infrastructure of countries in the region to advance its aggressive plans against Iran, and emphasizes the direct and unmistakable responsibility of the leaders of Kuwait and Bahrain for last night's acts of aggression," a statement said.

In a separate statement carried by the semi-official Fars News Agency, Iran's Foreign Ministry said it "strongly condemns" what it described as an "aggressive action by the terrorist U.S. military" against the tanker and the communications facility.

According to the ministry, the attacks were launched early Wednesday "from two countries in the region," which it later identified as Kuwait and Bahrain.

The ministry accused Washington of using the territory and facilities of regional countries to carry out military operations against Iran, saying the governments of Kuwait and Bahrain bear "direct and clear responsibility" for the attacks.

Kuwait suspends flights after airport attack

The accusations came as Kuwait Airways suspended all operations until further notice following Iranian attacks that disrupted activity at the Kuwait International Airport.

In a statement cited by Kuwait's Al Anba newspaper, the national carrier said the decision was taken due to the "current circumstances and in coordination with the country's civil aviation authorities."

The airline said the affected flights would be rescheduled and passengers would be notified of new departure times through the contact details provided during booking.

The suspension followed a decision by Kuwaiti authorities to halt and divert flights at the Kuwait International Airport after an Iranian drone attack caused damage and injuries, according to an earlier Defense Ministry statement.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said attacks on U.S. bases in Kuwait were launched in response to a U.S. strike on Qeshm Island in southern Iran earlier on Wednesday.

Bahrain says missiles, drones intercepted

Meanwhile, Bahrain's Defense Force said it intercepted and destroyed three Iranian missiles and several drones targeting what it described as civilian sites in the kingdom.

In a statement, the Defense Force accused Iran of continuing its "hostile approach" through missile and drone attacks aimed at "civilian" facilities in Bahrain.

The military urged residents to exercise caution and avoid approaching or touching any suspicious objects or debris resulting from the attacks.

It also called on the public to immediately report any such findings to authorities.

No immediate information was provided regarding casualties or damage resulting from the attacks.

Earlier on Wednesday, the IRGC said it had attacked U.S. bases in Kuwait following the American strike on Qeshm Island.

Later, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said that "two Iranian missiles fired at Kuwait fell short or broke apart en route, and three missiles launched at Bahrain were immediately intercepted by the U.S. and Bahrain air defense forces."
