Bahrain’s military said Wednesday that its air defense systems intercepted three missiles and several drones launched from Iran following overnight attacks targeting the Gulf kingdom.
In a statement, Bahrain’s General Command of the Defense Force said the air defense units successfully neutralized the incoming projectiles.
The statement accused Iran of continuing a “systematic hostile approach” through missile and drone attacks targeting civilian areas in Bahrain.
Authorities urged residents not to approach suspicious or unidentified objects that may have fallen during the attacks and to immediately report them to the relevant authorities.
The military also stressed that targeting civilian areas constitutes a clear violation of international humanitarian law.
Earlier, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it had targeted the headquarters of the U.S. Fifth Fleet in Bahrain with missiles and drones.
Iran said the attack on the U.S. base was carried out in response to a U.S. strike on Qeshm Island.
The latest exchange marks a further escalation in tensions between Iran and the United States amid ongoing hostilities across the region.
Meanwhile, the Kuwait International Airport was struck by Iranian drones on Wednesday, causing damage and injuries, according to a statement from Kuwait’s Defense Ministry.
Authorities suspended and diverted flights “until further notice” following the attack.
Defense Ministry spokesman Saud Abdulaziz Al-Otaibi said the “hostile” drones struck the airport’s main passenger terminal, Terminal 1, causing “significant” damage to the building and injuring several people.
He said those injured received medical treatment.
“The Kuwaiti Armed Forces are monitoring the situation in coordination with relevant authorities and remain on full alert to respond to any developments,” Otaibi said.
Separately, Kuwait’s General Directorate of Civil Aviation announced the activation of an emergency plan at the airport following the incident.
Earlier on Wednesday, the IRGC said attacks targeting U.S. bases in Kuwait were launched in response to an American strike on Qeshm Island in southern Iran.
The attacks come amid escalating tensions since the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran in February.
Tehran has responded with attacks targeting Israel, U.S. military facilities and allied countries in the Gulf, while the broader conflict has disrupted regional security and international shipping routes.
A ceasefire brokered through Pakistani mediation took effect in April, but repeated exchanges of attacks and accusations have undermined efforts to reach a broader agreement.
