Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran would respond forcefully to any future attack, reacting to recent statements by U.S. and Israeli leaders that raised the possibility of renewed military action against Tehran.
In a written statement posted on the social media platform X, Pezeshkian said the Islamic Republic would not tolerate aggression and would answer any strike decisively.
“The response of the Islamic Republic of Iran to any unjust and oppressive attack will be harsh and regretful,” he said.
The Iranian president’s comments followed remarks made in Washington after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with U.S. President Donald Trump during a visit to the U.S. capital.
Asked by reporters about the possibility of a new Israeli attack on Iran, Trump said he was open to such a scenario, warning that Tehran would face severe consequences.
“They know the consequences of what they do,” Trump said, adding that the outcome could be “very heavy, maybe even heavier than last time.”
He also said Iran should have accepted an agreement when it had the opportunity.
Trump’s comments came as tensions remain high following earlier hostilities. During a 12-day conflict in June, US forces struck three major Iranian nuclear facilities, Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan, using bunker-buster bombs.
Those strikes followed a surprise Israeli attack that killed senior Iranian military commanders and nuclear scientists and targeted several nuclear-related sites.
Pezeshkian said the current situation is more complex than previous conflicts, accusing the United States, Israel and some European countries of exerting pressure on Iran through political, economic and military means.
He warned that any further escalation would be met with a strong response.
The Iranian leader’s remarks underscored Tehran’s position amid continued uncertainty over regional security, as Washington and Tel Aviv signal readiness for further action while Iran reiterates its determination to defend itself against any attack.
