Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, said Iran’s leadership is “lashing out in desperation” following what he described as decisive and surgical U.S.-Israeli strikes.
Speaking to reporters in New York on Monday, Danon said Israel and the U.S. “will not stop” their operations against Iran until their objectives are achieved.
“We will do whatever is necessary to make sure Iran doesn’t have nuclear capabilities,” he said.
Danon added that Israel would do “whatever is necessary to protect our people, to protect our borders.”
Despite the ongoing impact on civilians, including several Israelis who have been killed, Danon said it is part of the “sacrifice” for future generations.
“We all know those we have lost, despite the sacrifice, we are determined,” he said. “We will not stop until we achieve our objectives.”
He also expressed hope for new leadership in Tehran, saying he believes freedom for the Iranian people “will come sooner than later.”
His remarks came three days after the United States and Israel began their assault on Iran.
At a news conference, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said, “we didn’t start this war but under President Trump we are finishing it.”
Hegseth said the campaign is “not a so-called regime change war,” dismissed criticism of another “endless war,” and did not set a timeline or rule out ground troops.
He said U.S. ambitions are “not utopian, they are realistic,” and described the objectives as crushing Iran’s military power and ending its nuclear program.
