Six members of Iran's naval forces were killed in U.S. attacks this week, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported Thursday, part of a broader wave of strikes that Iranian officials say has killed at least 19 people across the country since Tuesday.
Tasnim said the six sailors died during U.S. strikes carried out on Tuesday night, though the agency did not specify where the attack took place.
Citing a statement on the deaths, the agency reported that the six were killed "during the criminal attacks carried out by the U.S. terrorist army two nights ago on September 1 on the south of the country," and that the men belonged to the navy branch of Iran's regular armed forces.
The naval deaths add to a broader casualty count that Iranian state media have attributed to two days of American bombardment.
Officials and state outlets reported that seven people were killed in the southwestern province of Khuzestan, an oil-producing region along the Iraqi border and the Gulf coast.
Four members of the Revolutionary Guard Corps, a branch of Iran's military distinct from its regular armed forces, were reported killed in the western province of Kermanshah.
Elsewhere, Iranian media said three paramilitary fighters were killed on Lavan Island in the Gulf, and one additional person died in the southern province of Fars.
Officials also said four people were killed when strikes hit a wedding party in Hormozgan province, on Iran's southern coast along the Strait of Hormuz.
It remained unclear whether the six naval personnel cited by Tasnim were among the seven deaths already reported in Khuzestan province, raising the possibility that the two tolls overlap rather than represent separate totals.
Iranian authorities had not clarified the discrepancy as of Thursday.
