The Iraqi government strongly condemned the recent U.S. airstrikes targeting nuclear facilities in Iran, warning that the attacks pose a serious threat to security and peace in the Middle East and expose regional stability to significant risks.
Iraq’s Government Spokesperson Basim Awadi issued a written statement expressing deep concern over the strikes on the Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear sites. Awadi emphasized Iraq’s rejection of the use of force in international relations and called for respect for the sovereignty of nations.
He stressed the importance of not targeting facilities under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency that are used for peaceful purposes.
Avvadi warned that military solutions cannot replace dialogue and diplomacy and that continued attacks risk triggering a dangerous escalation.
Highlighting that the consequences of such actions extend beyond a single country, he said they threaten the stability of the entire region and the world.
In line with Iraq’s responsibility toward regional and global peace, Avvadi called for an immediate reduction of tensions, the opening of urgent diplomatic channels, and efforts to defuse the crisis.
The U.S., under President Donald Trump, announced recent airstrikes on Iran’s key nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.
