Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said Thursday it launched a missile strike targeting a U.S. command-and-control center in West Asia and Jordan's Al-Azraq Air Base, warning that other U.S. bases in the region would not be spared if Washington's "aggression" continued.
In a statement carried by Tasnim News Agency, the IRGC said its Aerospace Force fired 10 ballistic missiles at 2:20 p.m. local time targeting the two sites, claiming the strikes "destroyed" both facilities.
"If the aggression of the U.S. terrorist army is repeated, other U.S. bases in the region will not be spared from our heavy fire," the statement said.
The IRGC said the strikes marked the second stage of its response to what it described as attacks by the U.S. military, after having warned in an earlier statement that renewed aggression would expand its response to other American bases in the region.
The IRGC identified the target as the Azraq military base in northern Jordan, also known as Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, saying the U.S. military had built up a significant presence there during the conflict with Iran.
According to Reuters, the base hosts the U.S. Air Force's Central 332nd Air Expeditionary Wing.
The U.S. military had not commented on the reported attack as of the time of the report.
Jordan's national news agency, citing a military source, said earlier Thursday that the country's air defenses intercepted and downed eight missiles launched from Iran toward the kingdom.
The state news agency reported no casualties or damage from the interceptions.
The reported strike on Jordan came after Iran's army said in a separate statement carried by state media that it had targeted U.S.-linked sites in Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain with drones earlier Thursday, as the conflict between Washington and Tehran continued to widen following the collapse of a ceasefire earlier in the week.
