U.S. President Donald Trump issued a blunt two-sentence demand on his Truth Social platform on Monday, ordering both Israel and Iran to "immediately stop shooting" as the two sides continued trading missile barrages and airstrikes on the 100th day of the Iran war.
Trump wrote on Truth Social: "Israel and Iran must immediately stop 'shooting.'"
In a separate post on Truth Social, Trump said, "Both sides, Israel and Iran, are looking to do an immediate ceasefire! Final negotiations on 'Peace' are proceeding, subject to ignorance or stupidity getting in its way."
"The Blockade will remain in place, and in full force and effect, until a 'Final Deal' is reached. Things should move quickly," he added.
The statement comes as Iran fires nearly 30 ballistic missiles at Israel, Israel strikes Iranian air defense systems and petrochemical infrastructure in multiple waves, oil prices surge more than 5%, and diplomatic efforts to end the conflict are described as hanging "on a knife-edge."
An Israeli military official confirmed Iran had fired close to 30 ballistic missiles toward Israel since Sunday night.
Yemen's Houthi rebels separately fired two ballistic missiles at Israel, with one being intercepted and the second failing to reach Israeli territory.
Air raid sirens sounded across large areas of northern and central Israel, with Agence France-Presse (AFP) journalists reporting explosions heard over Jerusalem.
No casualties were reported on either side.
Iran's military Khatam al-Anbiya central command said it had inflicted "heavy, targeted, intelligent and damaging blows" on important and sensitive targets in Israeli territory, and warned that "in the event of continued aggression and acts of hostility, they will be dealt with even more forcefully."
Israel said it struck Iranian air defense systems deployed across several areas of the country and targeted a petrochemical complex in Mahshahr in southwestern Iran.
"In this complex, chemical materials are produced and used for ballistic missiles that are fired towards here, towards the state of Israel," an Israeli army official said, adding, "the strikes and the damage to the complex disrupts their ability to manufacture various types of weapons."
Israeli army's Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir spoke with U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) commander twice over the past day, officials said.
