Israel has arrested four regular soldiers on suspicion of spying for Iran and photographing sensitive sites, Israeli media reported Monday, in what Channel 15 described as a new and concerning espionage case involving combat-unit personnel during wartime.

The report said the four soldiers, who were serving in regular combat units, were detained on suspicion of carrying out collective spying activities for Iran. It said Iranian intelligence had assigned them missions that included photographing sensitive facilities.

The detention of all four soldiers had been extended and that some of the suspects had been denied access to legal counsel.

Report says soldiers were tasked with photographing sensitive sites

According to Channel 15, the four soldiers were involved in what it described as collective espionage activity for Iran.

The report said Iranian intelligence had tasked the suspects with carrying out missions, including photographing sensitive facilities, but did not provide further details about the sites involved.

It said the case was being treated as a serious espionage matter involving regular soldiers serving in combat units.

Channel 15 described it as a "new and concerning espionage case."

Some suspects denied legal counsel, detention extended

The report said some of the suspects were denied access to legal counsel.

It also said the detention of all four soldiers had been extended.

No further details were provided in the report on the legal grounds for the restrictions or the length of the detention extension.

Report links case to rising espionage threats

Citing informed sources, Channel 15 said the case reflected what it described as a growing effort to penetrate Israel's security establishment and infiltrate civilians.

The sources warned of what they described as a sharp rise in espionage threats attributed to Iran in recent days.

The report presented the arrests as part of broader concerns in Israel over alleged Iranian intelligence activity.

Arrests come amid wider regional escalation

The report came as regional tensions have continued to escalate since the U.S. and Israel launched a joint offensive on Iran on Feb. 28.

More than 1,340 people have been killed to date, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel as well as Jordan, Iraq and Gulf countries hosting U.S. military assets.

Iran has also restricted the movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
