Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel will continue to "prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state" while supporting settler attacks against Palestinians on occupied land.
Israel's Channel 7 television reported Netanyahu's statements made during a ceremony marking the approval of the construction of 17 new settlement units in the occupied West Bank.
Regarding Israeli settlers' attacks on Palestinians in the occupied Palestinian territory, Netanyahu said, "The Israeli people trust in the heroism of our children. We protect all Israeli lands, including Judea and Samaria (West Bank)."
On the construction of 17 new illegal settlement units in the West Bank and the annexation of the region, Netanyahu said, "25 years ago, I promised we would deepen our roots, we did this together. I said we would prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state, we are doing this together, too."
Netanyahu made statements that Israel is closer than ever to establishing "sovereignty" in the West Bank, while not providing details on the matter.
Since Israel began its attack on the Gaza Strip on Oct. 7, 2023, there has been an increase in detentions, raids and attacks against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.
The number of Palestinians detained in the West Bank and East Jerusalem since Oct. 7, 2023, has exceeded 11,800, while 794 Palestinians, including 167 children, have lost their lives in attacks by Israeli soldiers and Israeli settlers occupying Palestinian territories.
U.S. President Donald Trump's Middle East Special Envoy Steve Witkoff said they will hold meetings this week on the Russia-Ukraine War, Iran and Gaza, aiming to resolve these conflicts before the end of the year.
Witkoff spoke during Trump's cabinet meeting at the White House that lasted more than three hours, making statements about his work.
Noting that Trump has resolved some disputes since taking office, Witkoff said, "Russia-Ukraine, Iran, Israel-Hamas. We will hold meetings about all these conflicts throughout this week. We hope to resolve these by the end of the year."
