Jordan's military shot down a drone early Tuesday after it breached the kingdom's airspace over the eastern desert. This is the latest in a string of drone incidents along the Jordan-Israel border, coinciding with signs that the U.S. and Iran may be pausing their exchange of strikes.
The military stated that the drone was intercepted after entering Jordanian airspace, with no casualties or material damage reported, according to the Petra news agency.
The incident came a day after Jordan's military reported shooting down two other drones targeting the kingdom.
The Israeli military said it intercepted a drone in the area of the Jordan border Tuesday, saying in a statement: "A short while ago, the Israeli Air Force intercepted a UAV in the area of the Jordan border. The UAV did not cross into Israeli territory. The origin of the launch is under review."
No sirens were sounded, which the military said was in accordance with standard protocol.
This followed two earlier interceptions by Israeli forces near the border Monday. In one instance, Israel assessed that a drone had likely been launched from Iraq, according to Haaretz.
Israel's military noted that Jordan has been repeatedly targeted since the U.S.-Iran war resumed earlier this month, while Israel itself has not taken part in the current round of fighting.
Saudi Arabia said Monday it had intercepted and destroyed several drones launched from Iraqi territory that attempted to target oil facilities in the kingdom.
Saudi Arabia said Tuesday it shot down drones launched at the kingdom by Iran-affiliated groups operating in Iraq. Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi directed the competent security authorities to investigate the statement issued by the Ministry of Defense of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia regarding the targeting of the Kingdom with drones launched from Iraqi territory, according to information provided by the Saudi side.
Saudi Arabia's Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the "reprehensible drone attacks carried out by Iran-backed militias operating in Iraq" in a statement on X.
No group has claimed responsibility for any of the drone incidents in Jordan.
Tensions between the U.S. and Iran have intensified in recent weeks, with Washington carrying out strikes inside Iran and Tehran responding by targeting what it described as U.S. military facilities and equipment across the region.
