Mina Al-Ahmadi refinery hit, units shut down

Kuwait Petroleum Corporation said in a statement that the Mina Al-Ahmadi refinery belonging to Kuwait National Petroleum Company came under "several hostile drone attacks" in the early hours of Friday, resulting in fires in some of its units.

Initial assessments indicated no casualties, the corporation said.

Firefighting and emergency teams immediately began tackling the blaze.

Several refinery units were shut down, and all necessary procedures and measures were taken to ensure worker safety, the corporation said.

Kuwait and UAE air defenses intercept two waves of attacks

Kuwait's Army General Staff said the country's air defense systems were confronting "hostile missile and drone attacks," adding that any sounds of explosions heard were the result of interceptions.

Less than two hours later, Kuwait issued a second statement saying its forces were encountering a second wave of attacks.

The UAE's National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority said air defense systems were responding to a missile threat, urging residents to remain in safe locations and follow official guidance. The Dubai Media Office later said all air interception operations in the emirate had been successfully completed with no injuries reported.

U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran began on Feb. 28 and have reportedly killed around 1,300 people so far, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq and Gulf countries hosting U.S. military assets throughout the campaign.
