Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Monday that Israel fully supports U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to impose a naval blockade on Iranian ports.
He said that the two sides are "in constant coordination" and dismissed any suggestion of a divide between Washington and Jerusalem on the Iran policy.
Netanyahu addressed the issue at a cabinet meeting Monday, in a video statement released by his office.
"Iran violated the rules during the peace talks in Pakistan. President Trump decided to impose a naval blockade on them. We, of course, support this firm position, and we are fully coordinated with the United States at all times," Netanyahu said.
Netanyahu added that the U.S. Vice President JD Vance called him from his plane while flying back from Islamabad to brief him on the outcome of the marathon talks.
"He made clear that the central issue is the removal of all enriched material and ensuring that there is no more enrichment," Netanyahu said of Vance's call.
"Israel backs the U.S. position that Iran must remove all of its enriched nuclear material and must refrain from any enrichment within Iran for several decades," Netanyahu said.
Netanyahu addressed reports of friction between Jerusalem and Washington directly.
"Claims that there is any rift between us are completely false," he said.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said the blockade of all vessels entering and exiting Iranian ports and coastal areas would begin Monday at 10 a.m. ET, 2 p.m. GMT, covering all Iranian ports on the Arabian Gulf and Gulf of Oman.
CENTCOM specified that non-Iranian vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz between non-Iranian ports would not be impeded.
