Israeli opposition leader Yair Golan accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of “deliberately abandoning” Palestinian citizens of Israel, citing rising violence and security failures, in a series of posts on social media.

“Over 700 murders in three years leave no room for doubt: the criminal minister appointed by Netanyahu is deliberately abandoning the lives of Arab citizens,” Golan said in a post on X.

He said Netanyahu had handed internal security to “a convicted arsonist” to maintain political survival and accused the government of allowing criminal organizations to dominate.

“This failed government has turned criminal organizations into the landlords of the territory,” he said.

Golan also addressed Arab citizens of Israel, saying they were “not invisible” and that their pain was shared.

“We cannot speak of shared lives when blood is spilled in the streets, and we cannot speak of security when in entire cities people are afraid to leave their homes,” he said.

Violence among Palestinian citizens

Palestinian citizens of Israel have faced violence alongside what Golan described as discriminatory conditions.

In 2025, 300 people were killed in Israel, including 252 Palestinian citizens.

Israel’s census recorded about 1.9 million Palestinians with Israeli citizenship in 2019, most of whom are descendants of those who remained in Israel following its establishment in 1948.

Around 750,000 Palestinians were expelled or fled, and thousands more were killed by Zionist militias in the period leading up to the creation of the state.

Criticism extends to broader government policies

In a separate post, Golan accused the Netanyahu-led government of undermining security and dividing the public to avoid accountability.

“The Netanyahu-Smotrich-Goldknopf government is undermining security and dividing the people in order to evade a state commission of inquiry,” he said.

He added that Hamas remained active and was rebuilding its capabilities.

“Two and a half years into the massacre, Hamas is alive, breathing, recovering, receiving money again from Qatar and building tunnels,” he said.

Golan said the government would be held responsible for future developments and called for the establishment of a state commission of inquiry.

“The first decision we will make will be to establish a state commission of inquiry,” he said.

Accusations over Gaza strategy

Golan also criticized the government’s handling of the conflict in Gaza, saying political leadership had failed to capitalize on military achievements.

“While IDF soldiers risked their lives and achieved monumental military successes on the ground, the political echelon threw them in the trash,” he said.

He questioned claims of “absolute victory” and described the situation as a “complete fraud.”

“Instead of leveraging the success for a diplomatic move that would ensure a governing alternative to Hamas, the government chose political survival,” he said.

Golan said Hamas was rebuilding under what he described as a diplomatic freeze and called the situation a “colossal strategic failure.”

“We must replace this government immediately so that we can finally bring about a true resolution in Gaza,” he said.
