Oman’s foreign minister said the “door to diplomacy remains open” between the U.S. and Iran despite a large-scale U.S.-Israeli military campaign against the Islamic republic.

The strikes killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Tehran responded with salvos of missiles and drones targeting Israel and locations across the Gulf.

“I want to be very clear — the door to diplomacy remains open,” Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi said in a post on X.

Geneva talks made progress

Albusaidi said talks in Geneva had made “genuine progress towards an unprecedented agreement between Iran and the United States.”

He added that while the hope had been to avoid war, conflict should not extinguish the possibility of peace.

“War should not mean that the hope of peace is extinguished. I still believe in the power of diplomacy to resolve this conflict,” he said.

Earlier Sunday, Albusaidi urged a ceasefire during a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
