No date has been set for a second round of talks between the United States and Iran, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said Thursday, adding that a ceasefire in Lebanon remains essential for progress in negotiations.
“Peace in Lebanon is essential for (Iran) peace talks,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said, according to Reuters.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in the Qatari capital Doha on Thursday as part of a diplomatic effort to help advance an agreement between Washington and Tehran.
Sharif landed at Hamad International Airport at the start of what Qatari state news agency QNA described as a working visit.
The trip marks the second stop on Sharif’s three-leg regional tour, which began in Saudi Arabia and will conclude in Türkiye.
On Wednesday, Sharif discussed Islamabad’s mediation efforts between the U.S. and Iran with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman during a meeting in Jeddah, according to a statement from his office.
The first round of U.S.-Iran talks took place in Islamabad over the weekend but ended without agreement after 21 hours of negotiations.
A Pakistani delegation is in Tehran on Thursday in an effort to move the process forward.
