A general cargo vessel managed by Istanbul-based AGN Ship Management was struck by a Russian drone as it departed Ukraine's Sulina port, causing fires and significant structural damage aboard the ship.
The AGN Ragnar, which joined the AGN Ship Management fleet in October 2025, sustained major damage to its living quarters and bridge following the drone strike. Fire broke out on board, and crew members were evacuated, according to available information.
Sulina, situated at the mouth of the Danube River in Romania's Danube Delta, serves as a key transit point for vessels navigating between the Black Sea and inland European waterways. Since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, commercial shipping in and around Ukrainian and neighboring ports has faced persistent threats, with drone and missile strikes targeting maritime infrastructure and vessels operating in the region.
The strike on the AGN Ragnar is the latest in a series of incidents illustrating the dangers faced by commercial vessels operating near Ukrainian waters. Istanbul has emerged as a major hub for ship management companies operating in the Black Sea trade, with numerous firms overseeing vessels that transit the region despite ongoing hostilities.
