Chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority (GEA) Turki Alalshikh affirmed that calls to boycott certain events or products, as such actions adversely affect Saudi Arabia’s economy.

He stated that he opposes the boycott, describing it as unhealthy, whether it involves a Saudi or an international brand.

"The primary victims of such actions are ordinary citizens, including employees and investors in Saudi Arabia, and that affects our economy," Alalshikh said.

Alalshikh made the remarks during a press conference launching the 2025 Riyadh Season, where he unveiled new details about the highly anticipated event.

The new edition will kick off on Friday with a massive parade showcasing the season's new elements.

Al-Sheikh denies soft power drain claims

Al-Sheikh rejected criticisms directed at Riyadh Season regarding the alleged “draining of soft power from other Arab countries.”

He emphasized that the event’s primary success stems from the strong support of the Saudi leadership, alongside the efforts of young Saudi professionals who are now leading the scene across various entertainment and cultural sectors.

“I have never heard any Briton ask me: ‘Why are you coming to take our soft power?’ Entertainment is open to everyone, and it is time to give our youth a real opportunity to create success,” Al-Sheikh added.
