The YPG/SDF terror group fired mortar and rocket rounds at two villages in northern Syria's Jarabulus countryside on Sunday, according to Syrian state media and civil defense teams, marking a violation of a recently extended ceasefire agreement.
A mortar shell launched from SDF-controlled areas in Ayan al-Arab, struck the entrance of al-Jamal village, the Syrian Arab News Agency reported. Separately, an SDF rocket hit a residential building in al-Hawi village, located west of the Euphrates River in Aleppo's countryside, according to the Syrian Civil Defense. No casualties were reported in either attack.
The strikes occurred one day after Syria's government extended its ceasefire with the SDF by 15 days on Saturday. The extension aims to facilitate a US military operation evacuating ISIS detainees from SDF-run prisons and transferring them to Iraq, Syria's Defense Ministry stated.
The Syrian government had announced just hours earlier that a four-day truce with the SDF had expired and that officials were evaluating their response to the agreement's conclusion.
The US military's Central Command announced Tuesday that it had initiated a mission to relocate Daesh detainees from northeastern Syria to Iraqi custody to ensure the fighters remain in secure detention. The operation began with American forces transporting 150 Daesh members from a detention facility in Hasakah province to a secure Iraqi location.
