A suspect has been arrested after unidentified gunmen launched a gun attack on the residence of Iraqi Turkmen Front (ITF) lawmaker Gulsel Mohammed in the northern city of Kirkuk, with no casualties reported.
Kirkuk Police Department said in a written statement that the perpetrator of the armed attack on Mohammed's home was detained. Security cameras in the area were reviewed immediately after the attack, leading authorities to the suspect's address, the statement said.
The suspect is 20 years old and will be brought before a court, according to the police statement.
ITF Chairman Mehmet Seman Aga strongly condemned the attack in a statement.
"This attack is a dangerous attempt to destabilize security and stability in Kirkuk province and a blatant breach of the law," Aga said.
He urged local security authorities in Kirkuk to initiate an immediate and transparent investigation, identify those responsible and ensure they are brought to justice.
The armed attack targeted Mohammed's home in central Kirkuk. No deaths or injuries were reported, according to initial information.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Kirkuk police moved quickly following the incident, reviewing area surveillance footage and tracing the attacker to his address. The detained 20-year-old suspect is set to face judicial proceedings.
