The Syrian army reinforced its positions on Wednesday, Jan. 14, in the Dayr Hafir area of Aleppo province, held by the terrorist organization YPG, operating under the name SDF.
As part of preparations for a possible operation targeting the SDF's remaining areas west of the Euphrates River, the Syrian army dispatched a military convoy from Latakia to the region.
The convoy includes military vehicles carrying multiple rocket launchers and artillery batteries. The convoy is expected to be deployed along the Dayr Hafir line in Aleppo, an area designated by the Syrian government as a closed military zone.
The terror group YPG-led SDF conducted attacks in Syria's Aleppo province on military positions and civilian areas.
A military source speaking to state television channel Al-Ikhbariya said the terror group targeted some military positions near Hamima village east of Aleppo city and civilian homes using unmanned aerial vehicles and heavy machine guns. The source said it remained unclear whether the attack caused casualties.
The Syrian army responded to the SDF attacks by targeting the group's positions around Dayr Hafir with artillery fire, according to reports.
Al-Ikhbariya noted that a civilian attempting to leave Dayr Hafir city by motorcycle was shot by a sniper affiliated with the terror group. The channel emphasized that the group "continuously carries out murders in the field."
Since last week, the SDF has shelled residential neighborhoods, civilian facilities, and Syrian Army positions in Aleppo, killing 24 people, wounding nearly 130 others, and displacing about 165,000 residents from the Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud districts, according to official figures.
In March 2025, the Syrian presidency announced an agreement for the SDF's integration into state institutions, reaffirming territorial unity and rejecting any division attempts.
In April 2025, Syrian authorities signed a separate agreement concerning the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods. Both districts remain administrative parts of Aleppo city while respecting their local particularities. The agreement banned armed manifestations, restricted weapons to internal security forces, and required the SDF to withdraw its armed forces east of the Euphrates in northeastern Syria.
However, authorities said the SDF has failed to comply with the terms of the agreement.
Syrian intelligence claimed the terror group SDF has incorporated wanted criminals into its ranks.
A Syrian intelligence source speaking to the official news agency, Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), said the terror group PKK-linked SDF has incorporated wanted individuals and those who fled to areas under its control.
The source claimed many former regime elements wanted for various crimes serve as fighters within the group. These individuals joined the SDF in exchange for remaining in SDF-controlled areas.
Attacks against the Aleppo city center were reportedly carried out by PKK members in cooperation with the SDF using Iranian-made unmanned aerial vehicles.
The intelligence source said military intelligence units prevented some "terror operations" in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods.
The source claimed that PKK members use these individuals to procure explosive and bomb-making materials targeting areas where civilians gather and Syrian army and security forces operate.
