Syria's Energy Ministry announced that water pumping operations from the El-Babiri Water Station in northern rural Aleppo have been suspended, holding the terrorist organizations YPG/SDF responsible for the disruption.

In a written statement, the ministry said the El-Babiri station, which operates under YPG/SDF control, serves as the main water source for Aleppo city and surrounding rural areas. The statement indicated that the cessation of water flow from the station was carried out "in accordance with direct instructions from elements affiliated with SDF."

The ministry characterized the action as a deliberate interruption that has caused direct harm affecting the entire province, negatively impacting residents' lives and access to essential services.

Syria cites international law violations

The statement placed full responsibility on SDF for the disruption, emphasizing that targeting vital infrastructure and depriving civilians of basic rights constitutes a clear violation of international humanitarian law and universal norms.

Calling on relevant authorities and international organizations to take responsibility in the face of "these practices affecting the security and welfare of millions of citizens," the ministry stressed that all resources would be mobilized to restore water flow and ensure service continuity.

The El-Babiri Water Station is located on the Euphrates River between Qafsa and Meskene, east of Aleppo.
