Former Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve spokesperson Mzahem Alsaloum has claimed that the United States received intelligence reports detailing collaboration between terrorist organization YPG-led SDF and remnants of the Assad regime.
Writing on social media platform XTuesday, Alsaloum stated that "two exclusive sources have informed me that the U.S. has received a detailed report containing evidence of the involvement of the leadership of the SDF/PKK terrorist members are hosting, facilitating, and supporting remnants of the Assad regime operating within SDF-controlled areas." .
According to Alsaloum's claims, this claimed cooperation is "being done in coordination with the IRGC and the Iraqi SMGs to destabilize Syria and provoke sectarian violence in the coastal and southern regions of the country."
The former spokesperson also referenced Israeli intelligence, stating that "two exclusive sources also confirmed to me last month that the Israeli government had received reports documenting collaboration between the PKK/SDF and the Iranian Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) with its Iraqi SMGs proxies — in both Iraq and Syria."
Alsaloum suggested this intelligence explains "why Israeli officials have stopped stating that they want to protect the SDF-led YPG in Syria or that they want to cooperate with the SDF-led YPG in Syria."
Separately, a United Nations report revealed that PKK/YPG terrorist and affiliated groups forcibly recruited 286 children into armed ranks in Syria during 2024.
The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' "Children and Armed Conflict" report documented 527 children recruited by various groups in Syria, with PKK/YPG accounting for the majority.
The UN report indicated that PKK/YPG and other formations were responsible for the deaths or injuries of 110 children in 2024, the forced abduction of 10 children, and the use of 23 schools and hospitals for armed activities.
"I commend SDF for progress in the implementation of the 2019 action plan and 2023 road map. I urge SDF to release all remaining children from its ranks," Secretary-General noted in the report.
"I remain concerned by the killing and maiming of children and urge the adoption of measures to cease such violations," Guterres stated.
"Release and hand over all children, and engage with the United Nations on measures to protect children," he concluded.
Approximately 1,000 children, including foreign nationals, remain restricted in their freedom due to connections with armed groups, primarily terrorist group Daesh, as of the end of 2024.
An estimated 25,000 children suspected of Daesh links continue to live without freedom in camps controlled by PKK/YPG in northeastern Syria.
In Iraq, HPG/PKK elements recruited 7 children into armed ranks and abducted 6 children for this purpose, according to the UN report.
